Privacy and security for schools

Classroom TA is a classroom screen for teachers. Students never sign in, and we built it so that information about students stays in the classroom. This page summarizes what we store, where it goes and how it is protected, for principals, IT teams and privacy officers.

Students

  • Students never create accounts or sign in. Only teachers have accounts.
  • Student names typed in the name picker, group maker, games and pinned notes stay on the teacher's computer (browser storage). They are never sent to our servers or synced to the account.
  • Sub plans, which often mention students, are saved on the teacher's computer only and are cleared a week after the date.
  • The live link for online classes needs no account. Students only see the teacher's board.

Microphone and screen

  • The noise meter measures how loud the room is inside the browser. Audio is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
  • Presenting on the smartboard, in a video call or with a live link shows only the board, never the rest of the teacher's screen. The picture goes directly from the teacher's browser to the smartboard window or to students' browsers; it is not recorded or stored by us.
  • The live link uses a random address that can't be guessed and stops working as soon as the teacher stops presenting.

What a teacher's account stores

  • Account: email address and password (passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and stored securely hashed; we never see them).
  • Teaching: the weekly timetable, class names, topics and lesson plans the teacher enters.
  • Teacher settings: board name, language, favourite tools, traffic light minutes, school days off and similar choices, so the board looks the same on another computer.
  • Payments are handled by Paddle. We never see or store card numbers.

How it is protected

  • All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS).
  • Each teacher's data is private: the database only lets a signed-in teacher read and change their own rows (row-level security).
  • Encrypted backups are made daily and kept for 30 days.
  • Only a small number of named administrators can see account and subscription status, for support.
  • No ads, no advertising trackers, and we never sell data.
  • If something breaks, the browser sends us a short technical error report (the error, the page and the browser type), never names or content. Visitor statistics, if used, are cookieless.

Uploaded files and AI

  • If a teacher uploads a timetable or school calendar PDF, it is sent securely to our AI processing provider only to read it and return an editable draft. We do not keep a copy.
  • The translator sends the text being translated to our AI provider to return the translation.
  • Please don't upload documents that contain student information.

Where data is stored

  • The website runs on Cloudflare and the database on Supabase. Payments go through Paddle and account emails through our email provider.
  • Our providers may store and process information in the United States, the European Union or other countries, protected as described in our Privacy Policy.

Your rights and requests

  • Teachers can ask to see, correct, export or delete their data at any time.
  • Schools and districts can ask for a data processing agreement or answers to a privacy impact assessment or security questionnaire.
